The man who had the best seat in the house for a remarkable Dubai World Cup on Saturday has no doubt Arrogate produced one of the all-time great performances.

Terry Spargo, the voice of racing in the UAE for almost two decades, saved the best until last as Arrogate bought the curtain down on the Australian's tenure as the Dubai Racing Club’s commentator.

Despite calling the likes of Well Armed’s 14-length win in the the last World Cup at Nad Al Sheba in 2009 and the great battle between Pleasantly Perfect and Medaglia D’Oro in 2004, Spargo left Meydan on Saturday night having witnessed “the most spectacular” of them all, after Arrogate circled everyone of his rivals to win after fluffing the start on a rain-sodden track.

“I must admit my heart was in my mouth when he first came out the gate,” Spargo told the Racing Post. “He still had ten lengths to find leaving the back but then, on the home turn, he had them covered before he was even at them. I’ve never seen anything like that.”

Spargo, who has commentated on the race since 2001, added: “It’s one of the most incredible wins I’ve seen. I didn’t call 2000 when Dubai Millennium bolted in and I thought they were going to lift the roof off the grandstand when Electrocutionist triumphed in 2006 but of all the ones I’ve seen it’s the most spectacular.”
