Pinatubo is without question the most exciting two-year-old since the swashbuckling days of Frankel. Horses don’t win a Group 1 by nine lengths unless they are something special and Charlie Appleby’s colt did so with a swagger in the National Stakes at the Curragh.

When something looks too good to be true it usually is, but, as with Frankel, that might not be the case with Pinatubo. His potential is frightening and if the wheels stay on, skies and limits spring to mind.

But bookmakers have Pinatubo right where they want him in the ante-post market for next year's Qipco 2,000 Guineas and no right-minded individual can contemplate backing him at a standout 5-4, not this far in advance at any rate.
