Young Boys v Manchester City predictions

Manchester City will expect to extend their winning record in the Champions League when they travel to Switzerland to face Young Boys in their third game in Group G.

The Citizens have yet to drop a point after winning both of their games against Red Star Belgrade and RB Leipzig 3-1.

Their hosts will be backed by a vibrant home crowd, and while they have taken only one point from their first two European matches, they need to be respected as the reigning Swiss Super League champions.

It is fair to say that Young Boys have dominated Swiss football since ending their 31-year wait for the title in 2018. They have since won five of the six titles on offer, and coach Raphael Wicky continues to get the best out of his squad.

In his first season in charge, Wicky led his team to the title, beating second-placed Servette by a whopping 16 points. They have not looked back since, reaching the Champions League group stage for only the third time in their history, but they have yet to register a win.

Their 3-1 defeat at home to RB Leipzig was a rude awakening to the standards of the competition, but they showed some fighting spirit to draw 2-2 against Red Star in Belgrade.

They were only minutes away from securing a 2-1 win, and they will need to produce a similar clinical performance if they want to overcome Pep Guardiola's team.

With a Premier League title to defend, City will want to secure their spot in the knockout stage as soon as possible. Guardiola will have one eye on this weekend's Manchester derby when he names his starting line-up, but due to the riches at his disposal, City's second string should still be able to overcome Young Boys.

As qualification is yet to be secured, Guardiola is likely to still name some of his big hitters, and the signs are that we should see a high-scoring battle.

The Swiss outfit have scored 18 goals in seven home matches this season, and Guardiola's side have struggled to keep the ball out of the net, keeping just one clean sheet in their last ten games in all competitions. Both teams have every reason to go all out for victory, and while City can secure a win, they have shown signs of vulnerability at the back.

Young Boys v Manchester City bet builder predictions

Over 9.5 corners
Manchester City have taken the sixth most corners in the Premier League this season, with a tally of 53. They should not have any trouble creating chances against Young Boys, who have won at least five corners in each of their five previous matches at home.

Julian Alvarez to score
Argentina international Alvarez has already scored three goals in his two Champions League appearances this season, and he is becoming one of Guardiola's key players in Europe. Alvarez is part of one of Europe's deadliest attacks, so he should have his fair share of chances.

Mohamed Ali Camara to be shown a card
Centre-back Camara has been booked seven times this season while wearing Young Boys colours, more than any of his team-mates. Camara will have his work cut out all night against Haaland and Alvarez, and he may get to know the referee very well.
